A word about RCIA:  RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God…..By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and…..will receive the sacraments fruitfully”.
The RCIA program includes: people who were never baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who were baptized Catholic but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
If you are interested in the Catholic faith, or have a friend or relative who may be interested in making this journey of faith, please invite the person to contact Sister Jane at the rectory.

TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Ezekiel 18:25-28
Ezekiel was an Old Testament prophet who ministered to the Jewish people exiled in Babylon six centuries before Christ.  In today’s reading, he takes up a question we have probably asked ourselves:  Is God fair or unfair in his dealings with people?
Second Reading: Philippians 2:1-11
Paul wrote from prison to his Christian converts in Philippi, a city in what is today northeastern Greece.  While he was in prison, the Philippians had sent someone to bring money for his support and to stay with him.  Paul thanks them by quoting an early Christian hymn which he felt described Christ as a model for the way all Christians should live.
Religious Ed. Teachers, Aids, Hall Monitors, Scout Leaders, CYO coaches, Retreat Team, etc – anyone who volunteers to work with the children in our parish:
The Archdiocese of Boston mandates that any adult who has contact with children through St. John’s must complete a yearly CORI form.  If you are thinking of volunteering at some point during the school year you can either stop by the Religious Education office or give us a call to have a form mailed to you.
Also mandated by the Archdiocese, anyone working with the children must take a VIRTUS training class.  You must take this class one time.  The program confronts child sexual abuse through its Protecting Gods Children Programs.  Most organizations that work with children have a child safety program in place.  The VIRTUS program maximizes those efforts by helping churches and religious organizations renew their role as safe havens for children and empowering them with the tools to help adults protect children.  The class will be held here at St. John’s in Room 7  of the school building on the following dates:  Monday, October 3 at 6:30pm or Saturday October 15 at 9am.  The class lasts approximately 2 1/12 hours.  The information you will be hearing is NOT for children to see or hear.  If you need to attend, please call the religious education office at 617 846-3100, to register for one of the classes.
