A word about RCIA:  RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God…..By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and…..will receive the sacraments fruitfully”.  The RCIA program includes: people who were never baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who were baptized Catholic but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
If you are interested in the Catholic faith, or have a friend or relative who may be interested in making this journey of faith, please invite the person to contact Sister Jane at the rectory.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading:  Isaiah 25:6-10
The mountain dearest to the people of Israel was Mount Zion, the place upon which Jerusalem’s temple was built.  The prophet Isaiah, preaching during a time of political upheaval, foresees a day when God will gather on Mount Zion all the people of the world for a great banquet.
Second Reading:  Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20
On his missionary journeys, Paul took pride in supporting himself as a leather worker.  Now it’s different.  Paul is in prison and dependent upon his beloved Philippians.  They generously sent him help, the only Christian community known to do so.  As he now concludes his letter to them, Paul thanks them for their support and encouragement.

Information about the Petition Drive for Assisted Suicide
Between now and December 7, supporters of a bill to legalize physician assisted suicide will be trying to gather 68,911 signatures from Massachusetts voters.  This is the first step in putting this measure on the ballot in November 2012.  The position of the Church is that all suicide is a tragedy.  In a recent homily, Cardinal Sean said, “A vote for assisted suicide is a vote for suicide”.  Please consider Church teaching if asked to sign the petition for this suicide initiative.

Winthrop Catholic Woman’s Club Spirit Shawls
Our Spirit Shawl Program began in Autumn, 2007.  Since then, more than 40 shawls and lap robes had been delivered to patients in hospice, rehab or nursing homes, to frail elders and others.  A label that reads “Custom Made with Love by Winthrop Catholic Women” is affixed to each item.  If you know someone whose shoulders and spirits would be warmed with a shawl, do let us know.  Our gratitude goes to the knitters, crocheters, sewers and donors of yarn or fabric.  For more information you may contact Patricia Tacelli, 617 504-0606 pattac5@yahoo.com or Mary Page, 617 846-5648.

Prayer for Babies About to be Born
Heavenly Father, From the moment these children were conceived, you knew their names.  In the silent first hours of their lives, as cells divided and their living flesh quickened, Your love breathed deep within and they began to grow in Your image and likeness.  May our prayers be accompanied by choirs of angels as we await their births.  We ask this through Your child who was formed in the Virgin’s womb and who lived and died for us, Lord, forever and ever.  Amen
