The Religious Education Office needs your help!
Below is a list of grades for which we still need teachers in September.  Help pass along your knowledge of our Catholic Religion to the students of St. John’s.  It is only once a week for the weekly program and twice a month for the Sunday School Program.  The program begins at the end of September and ends in April.  Classes usually don’t exceed 12 students.  Come for a visit to the Religious Ed. Office in the school building and take a look at what we have to offer.  We are in the office Monday through Thursday from 8:00am until 3:00pm.  Or you can reach us at 617 846-3100 with any questions you may have.

Our Offertory this weekend, July 30/31 has one Intention: our regular Parish Support Collection.  Next weekend, August 6/7, our second collection will be for the Catholic Relief Services.  The basket will be passed once. We thank you for your generosity.
Reflection:  In today’s Gospel, Jesus feeds the five thousand with five loaves and two fish.  The message of stewardship is that God’s gifts, shared, will always be more than enough.

A word about RCIA:  RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God…..By God’s help they will be  strengthened spiritually during their preparation and…..will receive the sacraments fruitfully”.
The RCIA program includes: people who were never baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who were baptized Catholic but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
If you are interested in the Catholic faith, or have a friend or relative who may be interested in making this journey of faith, please invite the person to contact Sister Jane at the rectory.

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading:  Isaiah 55:1-3
Today’s reading is from a part of the book of Isaiah  written when the Jewish people were exiled in Babylon.
This section is often referred to as the “book of comfort” because of the encouragement it gives.  Today’s passage is a glorious finale to this “book of comfort”:  Poor people are being invited to a sumptuous banquet.
Second Reading:  Romans 8:35, 37-39
Today’s reading concludes the eighth chapter of Paul’s letter to the Romans.  This chapter reflects on the salvation brought about by God in and through Jesus.  Paul concludes this chapter with a jubilant hymn that celebrates the love of God expressed in Christ.

Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. -Mt 14:18-19
