Our OFFERTORY this weekend,
July 23/24 will have two collections, our regular Parish Support Collection and the
Collection for the Church in Africa.  The basket will be passed once.  We thank you for
your generosity.
Reflection:  “The law of Your mouth is to me more precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces,”says the Psalmist today.  Does the amount of my offering suggest that I could honestly say the same?

In your charity, please pray for the souls of Charles E. Levesque, Rita Macken and John Murphy who were buried from St. John’s this past week.  May their souls and the souls of all the faithful, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: l Kings 3:5, 7-12
King Solomon ruled about 950 years before Christ. His wisdom was legendary.  Today’s reading describes an event from early in Solomon’s rule that tells how he became a wise person.
Second Reading:  Romans 8:28-30
As we continue our readings from the eighth chapter of Paul’s letter to the Romans, we will today hear Paul use the word predestined. This word does not mean that individuals are locked into a destiny over which they have no control.  Rather, it means that in Christ, God provides abundant grace for everyone.

A word about RCIA: RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God…..By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and…..will receive the sacraments fruitfully”.
The RCIA program includes: people who were never baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who were baptized Catholic but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
If you are interested in the Catholic faith, or have a friend or relative who may be interested in making this journey of faith, please invite the person to contact Sister Jane at the rectory.

“Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go
out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw
