The Religious Education Office needs your help!
Below is a list of grades for which we still need
teachers in September. Help pass along your knowledge of
our Catholic Religion to the students of St. John’s. It is only
once a week for the weekly program and twice a month for
the Sunday School Program. The program begins at the end
of September and ends in April. Classes usually don’t
exceed 12 students. Come for a visit to the Religious Ed.
Office in the school building and take a look at what we
have to offer. We are in the office Monday through
Thursday from 7:45am until 3:00pm. Or you can reach us at
617 846-3100 with any questions you may have.
Monday Grades 1,2,5,6 2:40-3:40pm
Tuesday Grades 1,4 2:40-3:40pm
Wednesday Grade 3 2:40-3:40pm

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Wisdom 12:13, 16-19
The book of Wisdom, was written about 50 years
before Christ. In one lengthy section of this book, the author
looks back to the wonderful things God did for the Jewish
people during the exodus. In today’s passage from that
section, the author speaks directly to God with words of
praise.
Second Reading: Romans 8:26-27
We continue today to read from the eighth chapter
of the letter to the Romans, in which Paul discusses the role
of God’s Spirit in our life. Today’s brief reading gives us a
remarkable insight into prayer.

Our Offertory this weekend, July 16/17,
has one Intention: our Regular Parish Support
Collection. Next weekend, July 23/24, our second
collection will be for the Church in Africa and
Central and Eastern Europe. The basket will be passed once.
We thank you for your generosity.
Reflection:   Good stewards  in a parish are  like  the yeast  in
today’s Gospel.   Their  selfless gifts of  time and  talent help
the  parish  grow  and  thrive,  and  their  example  inspires
others to become good stewards, too

Attention all Teens and Young Adults
Pope Benedict XVI has invited the youth of the
world to join him for World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain
(August 13th-22nd, 2011). Join hundreds of young people
from the Archdiocese of Boston as we travel to Madrid for
the Catholic experience of a lifetime. We have designed two
special Catch All Groups for teens and young adults who
do not have a parish or community to travel with them. For
more information, please visit our website:
www.ONE4Boston.org. or contact Kathy Stebbins at:
Kstebbins@rcab.org. or 617 746-5811.

In your charity, please pray for the souls of Judith
Menz, Rose A. Craven, Roseann “Angie” Battaglia,
Maureen Murphy and Joseph Grasso who were buried from
St. John’s this past week. May their souls and the souls of
all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in
peace.

Respect Life
“Faced with the culture of death and attacks against
human life that, unfortunately, are increasing, may we never
fail to defend it at every stage, from the first moment of
conception to it’s natural end. May humanity experience a
new springtime of life, with respect and acceptance for every
human being in whose face shines the image of Christ!”
Pope John Paul II

A word about RCIA: RCIA is the Rite
of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by
which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ
proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the
living God…..By God’s help they will be
strengthened spiritually during their preparation
and…..will receive the sacraments fruitfully”.
The RCIA program includes: people who were never
baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who
were baptized Catholic but have never received the
sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
If you are interested in the Catholic faith, or have a
friend or relative who may be interested in making this
journey of faith, please invite the person to contact Sister
Jane at the rectory.

“Be patient with everyone, but above all with
yourself. I mean, do not be disturbed because of your
imperfections, and always rise up bravely after a fall.”
St. Francis DeSales
“He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot
the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until
harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters,
“First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for
burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”‘” -Mt 13:29-
