A word about RCIA: RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God…..By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and…..will receive the sacraments fruitfully”.  The RCIA program includes: people who were never baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who were baptized Catholic but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
If you are interested in the Catholic faith, or have a friend or relative who may be interested in making this journey of faith, please invite the person to contact Sister Jane at the rectory.

Attention all Teens and Young Adults
Pope Benedict XVI has invited the youth of the world to join him for World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain
(August 13th-22nd, 2011).  Join hundreds of young people from the Archdiocese of Boston as we travel to Madrid for the Catholic experience of a lifetime.  We have designed two special Catch All Groups for teens and young adults who do not have a parish or community to travel with them.  For more information, please visit our website:
www.ONE4Boston.org. or contact Kathy Stebbins at: Kstebbins@rcab.org. or 617 746-5811.

In your charity, please pray for the souls of Peter  Capano, Joseph Brown, Patricia Russo and Ralph Mele who were buried from St. John’s this past week.  May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Reflection:  May our stewardship of time, talent and treasure show us to be among those who have heard the message of Christ and taken it in, yielding a hundred- or sixty- or thirty-fold!

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading:  Isaiah 55:10-11
Because the Israelites were exiled in the pagan land of Babylon, the assuring words that God had previously spoken to them now seemed empty.  In today’s passage, the prophet Isaiah will use an image from nature to describe how God’s word always bears fruit and comes true no matter how unlikely it may seem.
Second Reading:  Romans 8:18-23
As we continue reading from the eighth chapter of Paul’s letter to the Romans, he tells us that sin affected not only human beings but also all creation, and the coming of Christ had a healing effect on both. It is evident that Paul is not pessimistic about this world.

Where do your kids go to have fun?
Protecting children from harm extends beyond the time that they are under your direct supervision.  Know where your children spend their time when school is out or they are not in the house.  Where do they gather and play with other kids?  Are there other adults in the area?  If so, who are they, and what reason do they have to be there?
Knowing the answers to these questions will help you to keep your kids safe even when you are not with them.

“A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world.  Through initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer.”
Pope John Paul II, The Gospel of Life
