TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First reading:  Jeremiah 20:7-9
Jeremiah often anguished over the difficulty in being a prophet.  Proclaiming God’s message made him very unpopular.  Today we hear why he still felt compelled to do it.
Second Reading:  Romans 12:1-2
Toward the end of Paul’s letter to the Romans, he deals with the moral demands made on those who follow Christ.  In today’s reading, Paul reminds us that living a Christian life – which so often includes sacrifice – is like an act of liturgical worship in which we offer ourselves to God.

TEACHERS NEEDED
The Religious Education Office needs your help!
Registration for Religious Education for the 2011-2012 school year is over.  Classes begin in 3 weeks and we still need a few teachers.  Below is a list of grades for which we still need teachers in September.  Help pass along your knowledge of our Catholic Religion to the students of St. John’s.  It is only once a week for the weekly program and twice a month for the Sunday School Program.  The program begins at the end of September and ends in April.  Classes usually don’t exceed 12 students.  Come for a visit to the Religious Ed. Office in the school building and take a look at what we have to offer.  We are in the office Monday through Thursday from 8:00am until 3:00pm.  Or you can reach us at 617 846-3100 with any questions you may have.

In your charity, please pray for the souls of Ruth Gallagher, Concetta Colarossi, Sebastiana Leo and Dorothea Tirrell who were buried from St. John’s this past week.  May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

“Extend your mercy towards others so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping.”
St. Vincent DePaul
“What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct.” -Mt 16:26-27
