St. John the Evangelist Parish 12th Annual Golf tournament
On Monday, September 12, St. John the Evangelist Parish will sponsor its 12th annual Golf tournament.  The goal of the tournament is to raise funds for the parish youth programs.  In order to continue these programs, we are asking for your support.  Your generous participation as a player or a sponsor in this year’s tournament will contribute to the efforts in continuing Youth Ministry.
If you are interested in playing, you may pick up a registration form from the back of the church or the rectory.  If you have any questions or are interested in donating to the golf tournament, please call the rectory at 617 846-7400.

A word about RCIA:  RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God…..By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and…..will receive the sacraments fruitfully”.
The RCIA program includes: people who were never baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who were baptized Catholic but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.  If you are interested in the Catholic faith, or have a friend or relative who may be interested in making this journey of faith, please invite the person to contact Sister Jane at the rectory.

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading:  Isaiah 22:19-23
In Jerusalem eight centuries before Christ, God spoke through the Prophet Isaiah who is told to address a problem.  The “master of the palace” – the equivalent of a secretary of state – was a man named Shebna.  God says that he is to be demoted because he used this office for his own advantage.  We will hear a description of the investiture of Shebna’s successor, Eliakim.
Second Reading:  Romans:  11:33-36
Today’s reading concludes a part of Paul’s letter to the Romans in which he agonizes over the fate of Jewish people who have not accepted Christ.  Paul simply leaves the matter in God’s hands and closes with a hymn that talks of the mysterious ways of Divine Providence.  You will notice that the ending of this hymn is similar to the way we end every Eucharistic prayer.

Registration for Religious Education for the 2011- 2012 school year is over.  Any family now registering will be charged an extra $25.00 late fee, and will not be guaranteed the class or day of their choice as classes have filled up fast.   Registration forms can be found at the back of the church or you can stop by the Religious Education office from 8:00am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday.  If you have any questions, please call 617 846-3100.
